Our Local Saints

The Orthodox Church in Cumbria

Anyone is welcome to join us for worship.

Keswick has been blessed by four great saints. They gather at the altar in the chapel. The frescoes are the work of Aidan Hart http://www.aidanharticons.com/ .

Sts Bega and Mungo

St Bega was a 9C Irish maiden who may have settled and died at Bassenthwaite.

St Mungo was a 6C itinerant bishop of Glasgow who preached at Crosthwaite.

Sts Herbert and Cuthbert

St Herbert lived as a 7C hermit who lived on St Herbert’s isle in Derwentwater.

St Cuthbert (687) the famous Bishop of Lindisfarne was a friend of St Herbert. He travelled widely over the whole north of Britain – and so did his body in his coffin when escaping the Vikings. It may have stayed at nearby Embleton.

Holy Saints of God pray for us!
